The Wi-Fi is down! I repeat, the Wi-Fi is down! And you can’t access a thing. Like a poorly planned plot twist, this nightmare occurred earlier today when I couldn’t access Google Sheets for my Author’s Master List. But as soon as the Wi-Fi limped into action, I took precautions to never get caught again. So this is how to easily access your Google Sheets or Docs offline without getting IT technical because we’re authors.
When the WiFi is down here's how to access your Google Docs OFFLINE… Share on X
WHAT IS GOOGLE CHROME?
Google Chrome is a free web browser used to access pages on the internet. It’s the mother ship harbouring all these apps like Gmail, Google Docs, Google Sheets, and so many other amazing tools.
Honestly, I’ve never made the time to check out all of these tools, and I’ll probably never will. I’m an author, so I aim straight for Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Forms, Contacts, Analytics—okay, so I’m using a lot more than I thought. And so can you. Free.
To download Google Chrome, go here>>
Follow the self-explanatory installation instructions, then fill out all the details, etc.
WHERE TO ACCESS GOOGLE SHEETS
To access all those amazing lists of tools, we’ll be looking for Google Sheets to use the Author’s Master Tool.
Click on the top right corner of your Google Browser for the teeny 9 dots set in a square image.
Then scroll until you find the sheets (as per my top-notch screenshots below).
TO MAKE SHEETS AVAILABLE OFFLINE
From your PC (desktop), and when your internet shows up like a boozy bad boy four hours late for work, tap onto your Chrome browser.
🟧 Go to Google Drive
🟠Click on Settings
🔶Scroll down to the offline setting and tick the box.
And that’s it.
TO CHECK IF THE DOCUMENT IS AVAILABLE TO YOU OFFLINE:
Go to the Author’s Master Lists sheet
🟠 Open sheet
🟧Click the file (found in the top left corner)
🔶Scroll to find Version history:
BOOKMARK IT!
For easy offline access, save your file into the bookmarks.
As authors, we’re used to bookmarks on pages. It’s the same for the PC. Bookmarking files you regularly use onto your Google Chrome desktop allows you to access it from your phone, PC, and or tablet, whenever you sign on.
Especially when offline.
Hope this helps.
